Dr. Jürgen Heraeus was born in Hanau, Germany, in 1936. He studied business administration at the University of Munich, earning his PhD in 1963.
He then spent around two years in the USA, where he worked for different Heraeus subsidiaries. He was appointed to the Board of Management of W. C. Heraeus GmbH in 1970 and subsequently became Chief Executive Officer of Heraeus Holding GmbH.
He has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board and Chairman of the Shareholders Committee of Heraeus Holding GmbH since January 2000.
Dr. Heraeus is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Messer Group GmbH and Chairman of the Kathinka Platzhoff Foundation.
From June 2003 to April 2016 he served as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of GEA Group AG, an MDAX-listed company, and also served as Chairman of the German United Nations Children Fund for 10 years (April 2008 – June 2018).
As the father of five daughters, Dr. Jürgen Heraeus is particularly interested in educational policy.
