Saving 450,000 sheets of paper in 2016 at all German Heraeus locations

technology report online, April 2017

"Green IT for the climate" is the theme for this year’s Earth Day and also at Heraeus. On its way to a paperless office a new printer concept contributes to environment protection, saves paper and energy.

With cloud printers, a global digitization concept, and the support of its IT department, Heraeus is on its way to a paperless office, thereby making an important contribution to saving energy and protecting the environment.

The result in 2016:

  • reduced the number of printers by 75%
  • saved more than 450,000 sheets of paper

A few years ago, Heraeus employees were still printing out documents on 2,800 printers in Germany alone. Now eight colleagues share a single printer.

The advantages of the new printer concept cloud printing are apparent:

  • Using less and energy-efficient equipment helps to achieve cost savings.
  • You can delete unnecessary documents from the print queue before printing them, which saves paper.
  • Using their employee ID card, people can scan or print directly on any device.

Paperless through digital workstations

Future Innovation centre at Heraeus, Hanau, Germany
The new Heraeus Innovation centre in Hanau (Germany) focuses on digital workspaces.

"Green IT" requires a new way of thinking, shifting the work culture from printed paper to digitalization. With a new office concept Heraeus does a further step into this direction. Individual folders in cabinets and on desks will become a thing of the past soon. All employees will have digital access to their own knowledge and that of their colleagues on a shared platform.
