The Heart of the H2-Electromobility is Nano

Fuel cells belong to the most promising sources of energy for electromobility technologies in application for long range passenger transport, goods delivery transport (road) and railway transport.

Electromobility is based on two technologies which use on the one hand batteries and the other hand fuel cells as source of energy. In particular, for the second one a bright future is forecasted in application for long range passenger transport, goods delivery transport (road) and railway transport.

The energy in fuel cells arises via a proton conducting membrane separated reaction of hydrogen (H2) and oxygen from air (O2) to water (H2O), where the evolved electrons generated the current.

Both single reactions, the oxidation of H2 to protons and the reduction of O2 to water are precious metals catalyzed reactions, where particularly Pt based materials show the best performance. The optimized activity can be reached by using supported, homogenously distributed particles in the nanometer range, since precious metal can be saved and the special properties, which are present for metal particles in this size range, can be applied.

Those materials will help the H2 electromobility to an economic feasibility and thus a sustainable future.
