Display Antistatic Films

Static charges can ruin an electronic component or cause visual defects in coated films. A thin anti-static, protective film with Heraeus Clevios™ prevents ESD and dust problems when protective films are being peeled off.

Display Antistatic Films

Static charges can lead to numerous problems and often occur on plastic films, especially when peeling off protective films from another film such as an LCD polarizer.

ESD (electro-static discharge) damages and dust attraction by static charges are serious issues in the that can lead to defective displays.

Anti-static coating

A thin coating with Clevios™ produces surfaces with an antistatic, static dissipative, or conductive finish with precisely tunable sheet resistances (SR) in the range of 10E4 – 10E10 Ohm/sq. This prevents ESD and dust problems when protective films are being peeled off (Figure 1).

In display applications, the optical quality of the antistatic coatings are of great importance. Thanks to the excellent optical properties of Clevios™ coatings, they can be applied in even the most sensitive functional films used in LCD and OLED displays such as optical polarizers, protective films, and release films (Figure 2).

Clevios™ provides the required high levels of transmission, clarity, and colorlessness. Clevios™ coatings have been successfully used for almost two decades in display film applications. They have become practically indispensable.

In fact, there is a high chance that a Clevios™ coated film has been used in the production process of your new LCD TV (Figure 3).

Heraeus offers Clevios™ P T2, an aqueous PEDOT:PSS dispersion that is used as raw material for coating formulations.

A new era: Antistatic Pressure Sensitive Adhesives

Heraeus Epurio is bringing the next innovation in anti-static display films to the market. The development of Clevios™ P SB 6, a new organic solvent-based PEDOT dispersion, marks a new era. This material will enable transparent, antistatic pressure sensitive adhesives (AS-PSA). (Figure 4)

In contrast to ionic liquids that can also be blended with conductive adhesives, Clevios™ PEDOT offers real electronic and not only ionic conductivity. This makes lower sheet resistance (SR) ranges possible. This becomes especially important when larger substrates are peeled off at higher speeds.
