Antibiotic-Loaded Bone Cement for Infection Management in Arthroplasty Procedures

COPAL® G+C has a very broad spectrum of activity against most clinically relevant germs that can cause infection after hip and knee replacement. In combination, both antibiotics may target up to 90% of all pathogens typically found in PJI.1 An initial high local antibiotic release supports infection protection against bacterial colonisation of implants and adjacent tissue, which may be caused by gentamicin- and/or clindamycin-sensitive pathogens.2

The use of COPAL® G+C can reduce the risk of infection, e.g. in high-risk patients in primary arthroplasty procedures,3,4 in trauma cases after femoral neck fracture,5,6,7,8 and in aseptic revisions.4,8

Indications

COPAL® G+C is used for the stable anchoring of all suitable joint prostheses in primary arthroplasty operations, with added protection against infection. It is also used in revision operations resulting from the aseptic loosening of the prosthesis and infection of the prosthesis by organisms sensitive to gentamicin and/or clindamycin.
