IUVA World Congress I June 7 - 8

The International Ultraviolet Association presents the 2021 IUVA World Congress, taking place online, June 7-8, 2021. As new challenges continue to arise in air and surface disinfection applications, fighting infectious diseases like COVID-19, drinking water, reuse water and wastewater treatment, air pollution, hospital infections, ballast water treatment and industrial effluents, new applications emerge for UV technologies.

The 2021 IUVA World Congress promises to bring together worldwide academic and industry participants involved in all aspects of UV. The focus of this conference is to present the latest and emerging advancements in technology and research addressing the environmental, health, and treatment process challenges of today, as well as to discuss the current trends in UV regulations and new applications.

Presentation: Scientific proofs of UV disinfection systems to fight Sars-CoV-2

Jan Winderlich, present at the test under real conditions

Held by Dr. Jan Winderlich, Chief Scientist UV at Heraeus Noblelight

The Corona-virus pandemic heavily impacted global economics. It motivated the launch of many programs to fight Sars-CoV-2. The vision is the reduction of seriously infected people not only by social distancing but also technical measures. The product portfolio comprises surface and air disinfection systems. A battery driven Handheld helps to disinfect desks in waiting rooms and complex geometries in cars. Air disinfection systems have been developed to deactivate infectious particles in the room. The system performance has been extensively evaluated with laboratory measurements, computational simulations of the systems and their surroundings, and through 3rd parties.

The presentation will give an overview from the proof that UV light destroys Sars-CoV-2 to the engineering of a UV air disinfection system which has proven LOG5 virus reduction. A comprehensive study will present proof of active virus reduction in a real-world classroom setting by the air disinfection system. The direct comparison between a normal room and a room with an air disinfection has demonstrated a reduction in active virus in the air by over 95%!
