Pipes, barrels, storage tanks for windshield water or brake fluid - many plastic products are assembled in the course of their production from several individual parts. Infrared heat helps to weld the plastic parts together without additional glue or other aids. Many of these production steps are considerably simplified and accelerated by infrared emitters.
Why Infrared prefers black to white
It is worth mentioning that black plastics absorb infrared radiation much better than white or transparent materials, so the heating process is much faster with dark materials.
Joining two shells made of black plastic together to form a hollow body only takes 12 seconds of intense heat, whereas the heating process takes up to 40 seconds if the material is white or transparent.
