carbon infrared emitters in operation at 100% power output

This photograph shows carbon infrared emitters in operation at 100% power output. In this case, medium wave radiation is emitted at a peak wavelength of 2.0micrometers. When less power is required, for example with a slower conveyor belt, then there are two possible ways to reduce the IR emitter power, for example down to 50%.

all emitters are reduced to 50% power

1. All emitters are reduced to 50% Power

This reduces the operating temperature of the emitter and it becomes darker. The emitted wavelength changes. This method often finds application when the product temperature must be maintained.

one element of a twin tube emitter is switched off

2. One element of a twin tube emitter is switched off

Here, the tube which remains switched on continues to operate at 100% of its normal operating temperature and continues to emit radiation at 2.0micrometer but at only 50% of the power output. This is important if the product being heated absorbs infrared only at this wavelength.

Which option should be chosen?

It all comes down to what is best for the product and the process. If the wavelength is the important factor, choose option 2. If product temperature is the key thing, then option 1 is preferred.Have a word with our application specialists to see which is right for you!
