The Fabulous World of Precious Colours - Golden Times for Decoration

Upgrades for products with precious metal decoration!

Products often achieve their competitive advantage with special details, designs and accents. Particularly the decoration with precious metals can turn trivial products into golden highlights. In this way a standard product could become a premium, or even a luxury product.

Golden Times for Decoration

Refining different kind of substrates and artwork with precious metal is a process which fascinated human beings since thousands of years. As a revolution for ceramics and glass decoration first at the end of the 19th century liquid gold was developed.

Liquid gold can be applied onto substrates like glass and ceramics via brush application and spraying, whereas gold pastes are applied onto the substrates via decal application, thermoplastic screen printing, direct screen printing, or lining.

Nowadays precious metal compounds are available in different colour shades like lemonish, yellow reddish, platinum, rosé or copper and gloss levels like bright gold, silk matt gold, burnish gold or powder gold. Also several decorating systems allow companies and artists creative decoration on tableware, cosmetic flakes, glasses, bottles and more.

A global innovation: The Heraeus Low Temperature Gold®

High firing temperatures allowed in the past only the decoration with precious metal on substrates which can stand temperatures above 500°C / 932°F. Also glass tension of architectural glass did not allow the decoration with precious metal compounds.

Based on nanotechnology the company Heraeus developed a compound which enables the decoration on temperature sensitive substrates like stainless steel and aluminum: The Heraeus Low Temperature Gold®.

Besides low firing temperatures between 200°-250°C / 392°-482°F which increase energy efficiency at the firing process the compound also preserves the environment as it is based on water instead of dissolvers.

New options for refinement with precious metal

The Heraeus Low Temperature Gold® enables new opportunities for the glass industry as it allows the combination of a precious metal compound with organic colours. As an example this could be interesting for the decoration of different kind of packaging like perfume flacons, bottles or drinking glasses. But also the stainless steel and aluminum industry (for different kind of packaging as well as for the refining of living and lifestyle accessories) could profit from this compound with new decoration opportunities. Furthermore it also allows the application on architectural glass which can be used for instance in interior design.
