The Heraeus Precious Metals global business unit of the Hanau-based technology group is again setting new standards for the precious metals industry. Heraeus is the first company to award research grants for potential entrepreneurs with outstanding ideas in the field of precious metals chemistry. In addition to financial support, these grants give creative thinkers essential access to the necessary precious metals and precious metal compounds, as well as to research labs equipped with the latest technologies. “We offer researchers and developers everything they need to bring ideas for precious metals chemistry to life,” explains André Christl, president of Heraeus Precious Metals. “Our program for entrepreneurs provides access to customers and suppliers, support from mentors, and interaction with experienced precious metal experts across disciplines,” Christl continues. The program length is determined on a case-by-case basis, and it can last up to 36 months. Depending on the specific idea and the success of its implementation, Heraeus offers researchers and developers attractive options for producing and marketing their business ideas.
The program is aimed at students and experienced experts with innovative ideas in the field of precious metals chemistry – regardless of their course of study or work experience. Eligible ideas could include innovative precious metal catalysts, precious metal solutions and salts, or their applications. The program also accepts new business ideas for precious metals chemistry. The application and selection process are streamlined. For more information, please go to:
Since 2015, Heraeus has increased its expenditures for research and development related to platinum group metals by about 80 percent. A new innovation center at the headquarters of Heraeus Precious Metals in Hanau promotes collaboration across disciplines. The company’s investments go toward the development of new technologies, for example in hydrogen technology, and the digitalization of the precious metals business.
