Printed Sensors

Printed Sensors on flexible substrates is a burgeoning market. Ranging from medical sensors that conforms to body applications to the billions sensors that is required to power the Internet of Things, CleviosTM flexible printed sensors have the potential to drive growth in emerging applications.

Clevios™ can be used as a sensor electrode in various sensors, e.g., capacitive touch sensors, piezoelectric pressure sensors, organic photodetectors, conformal skin sensors, bioelectrodes etc. (Figure 1).

Sometimes the sensor electrode must be transparent, such as to backlight a capacitive touch sensor/switch, or in photodetectors. Here, Clevios™ can play its strengths against metal or carbon materials.

Full flexibility for IMEs

Clevios™ also offers the full flexibility sought after in the production of In-mold electronics (IMEs) which feature curved and 3D-shaped smart surfaces with embedded sensors.

As the internet of things (IOT) keeps expanding, the number of sensors which measure and connect devices, which are worked into wearable electronics or smart textiles or which assist with diagnostics, fingerprint sensors, X-ray detectors or elsewhere will grow accordingly.

Skin electrodes

As Clevios™ PEDOT:PSS is a polyelectrolyte, it possesses intrinsic electronic but also ionic conductivity. This makes it potentially ideal for skin electrodes used in biometric sensing. Many renowned scientific groups work with Clevios™ materials and there are abundant publications that prove superior sensing properties of Clevios™ in these applications.
