Time is money - spend less

PALACOS® fast R+G*: Designed for Quick Hands

The Fastest Element of Success in Joint Replacement.

PALACOS® fast R+G* is our fastest setting bone cement, developed without a waiting phase for an average overall time of less than 6 minutes.1

PALACOS® fast R+G* is only available with added gentamicin for antibiotic prophylaxis and has been shown to provide substantially higher elution rates than other bone cements despite containing less gentamicin.1

* In the United States, PALACOS® fast R+G is indicated for use in the second stage of a two stage revision for the total joint arthroplasty after the initial infection has been cleared.

Time is Money - Spend Less with PALACOS® fast R+G*

In 1987, over 20 antibiotics were tested within PALACOS® R for their in vitro elution rates. Of the antibiotics tested, gentamicin alone demonstrated superior elution kinetics. In fact, it was shown that PALACOS® R eluted nearly 1000 µg more gentamicin over 10 days than tobramycin, and 2000 µg more than vancomycin.2

As a broad-spectrum antibiotic, gentamicin is also effective against 70% of the bacteria that cause periprosthetic joint infections.3 In addition to superior elution rates and a broad spectrum of efficacy, gentamicin’s ability to withstand the heat of polymerization4 makes it the ideal candidate for bone cements.

This makes gentamicin the antibiotic of choice for all PALACOS® antibiotic loaded bone cements (PALACOS® fast R+G*, PALACOS® R+G*, PALACOS® MV+G*, PALACOS® LV+G*).

* In the United States, PALACOS® fast R+G, PALACOS® R+G, PALACOS® MV+G and PALACOS® LV+G are indicated for use in the second stage of a two stage revision for the total joint arthroplasty after the initial infection has been cleared.

PALACOS® fast R+G* has up to 37 percent faster working times than traditional bone cements** and includes the benefits of no waiting and a very short setting time. The average overall time for PALACOS® fast R+G* is less than 6 minutes.1

Reduction in time spent waiting on cement preparation and/or setting by using PALACOS® fast R+G* can reduce direct OR costs by as much as 50 dollars per surgery and have an opportunity cost savings of 155 dollars per surgery.5

PALACOS® fast R+G is indicated for use in the second stage of a two-stage revision for total joint arthroplasty after the initial infection has been cleared. PALACOS® fast R+G is not suitable for anchoring the femoral component of hip joint endoprosthesis.

Due to the lack of a waiting phase, vacuum cement mixing is also not recommended for use with PALACOS® fast R+G.
