Our daily work always consists of value-adding processes – and waste. In every operational and administrative area at Heraeus, we aim to recognize waste and make our processes efficient.
In your production workflows and administrative processes, always consider the perspective of our internal and external clients. This will make it easier for you to recognize where Heraeus can improve and where we can work together for continuous improvement in our company.

Heraeus Waste Hunter is an additional building block in the process of achieving the highest level of excellence in all areas at Heraeus. Along with many other ongoing initiatives, this campaign aims to motivate every department in our company to make a valuable contribution to our common vision.
We are calling on each employee to proactively question the status quo, recognize waste, and independently make processes flow efficiently. Through this campaign, we will make every employee familiar with the already available methods and tips such as “7+1 Types of Waste,” giving you the tools you need to become a Waste Hunter.
Heraeus Waste Hunter is not a program to cut jobs. We will not analyze how much potential waste individual employees identify. Taking part is not compulsory.
Most of all: Stay alert and curious. Talk openly within your team and with your colleagues and supervisors. Don’t hesitate to address the things you notice.
If you need a clear assignment: Learn about the 7+1 types of waste, and think about where any of these occur in your environment. It’s not a simple task, but it gets easier and easier with practice.
You can play an active part in determining how we work (and will continue to work) at Heraeus. You have the opportunity to initiate and implement changes yourself. You have a voice in deciding what will continue and what will change. You are the ones who knows best which work steps are necessary and what is actually superfluous. You are the experts for your topics. Take responsibility for your work. We need you!
Waste is any activity that consumes resources without providing any added value for our internal or external clients. As a result, the client is not willing to pay for these activities.
However, the activities that actually create added value for clients represent only a small portion of the entire work process. We Waste Hunters focus on noticing the activities that have no value and reducing them as much as possible. In this way, we can contribute to improving our overall performance.
An important note: It is not necessary, or even possible, to eliminate every instance of waste or all wasteful activities from our work processes. Some of them are absolutely necessary. Nevertheless, they should be constantly and repeatedly scrutinized.
