1st place: Nuremberg Christmas Market

It is one of the most famous and oldest Christmas markets in Germany and attracts thousands of visitors to its mulled wine stands every year. It is also known beyond Germany's borders for its stalls with red and white fabric roofs in the middle of the festively decorated old town. The absolute highlight is the ceremonial opening of the market by the Nuremberg Christ Child. Even after the opening, you have the chance to meet the Christ Child. From Tuesdays to Fridays at around 2.30 p.m., the Christ Child invites you to take a free ride on the multi-storey carousel. Afterwards, he can be found on the stage of the Christkindlesmarkt.

The Nuremberg gingerbread, the traditional Zwetschgen Männle made from dried plums or the Nuremberg grilled sausages are not to be missed here!

2nd place: Leipzig Christmas Market

The second oldest Christmas market in Germany welcomes its visitors annually with around 250 festively decorated stalls and booths. The Leipzig Christmas Market is thus one of the largest Christmas markets in Germany. Things get more international at Augustplatz in the Finnish village, where flambé salmon, glögli and specialties typical of the country are on offer. A must here is the daily concert by the trombone players on the balcony of the Old Town Hall. There are also plenty of attractions for younger visitors at Leipzig's Christmas market.

3rd place: Lindenau Harbour Christmas

For romantic people, this Christmas market is just the right place: located directly on Lake Constance and with a view of the Swiss Alps, Lindauer Hafenweihnacht is justifiably one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Germany.

But also for the physical well-being is provided with culinary delicacies from the region. A special visitor magnet at the market, is the "Magical Fairy Tale Forest". 5th place: Frankfurt Christmas market "City Alm".

In Frankfurt you can find the highest Christmas market! Next to the large alpine hut, 15 festively decorated stalls await you, serving mulled wine, hot cider, beer and other beverages. In addition, there are tarte flambée, bratwurst, burgers, crepes and other tasty treats. When the sun goes down and the stalls shine in full light, the square in front of the skyline has a truly festive charm. Mulled wine is served here until 11 p.m. and you can enjoy the Christmas atmosphere above the roofs of Frankfurt.
