Injection Molding Machine Developed In-House - We Leave Nothing in the Hands of Coincidence

16 Dezember

At the beginning of 2021, the decision was made. Heraeus AMLOY would manufacture its own injection molding system. But why the effort when there were already two functioning plants in production? The answer is quite simple. The existing plants would not have kept up with our requirements and were reaching their technical limits, as individual modifications that would have suited AMLOY's process were not possible. For the initial development of the processing of amorphous metals via injection molding as well as the production of prototypes, the external machines were perfectly suited. However, these reached their limits, also due to the development of materials and process control. The internal production process could not be further developed in this way and would have come to an innovative standstill. So Heraeus decided to develop its own machine, which was specially tailored to the internal production process of Heraeus AMLOY. As a first offshoot, the IMTEC 1 already saw the first light of day in the middle of the year. As a so-called "starting machine", it proved itself in the production process and fulfilled all expectations. In terms of performance, it was already superior to the old machines and has now been integrated 100% into the production process. At the end of this year, the second in-house machine, the IMTEC 2, joined us and is now in production in Karlstein am Main. As an add-on to the first generation, the second generation is a further development in the direction of standardization. With the IMTEC 2 it was possible to take over all functional units of the IMTEC 1, only the arrangement and the plant structure were modified and thus designed more suitable for production. Currently, IMTEC 2 is ready for pre-series production and will be completed by the end of this year so that it will be fully operational in 2023. The advantages of the two new plants compared to the old ones are immense. Superior to the old systems in terms of performance, the two IMTEC systems score highly in the areas of component quality, output rate, and repeatability in the process. In addition, the proprietary control panel interface is tailored and programmed to Heraeus AMLOY's own needs. This has enabled more intuitive operation compared to the old machines.

IMTEC - Processing of Amorphous Metals by Injection Molding at Heraeus AMLOY

In the injection molding process, the alloys are inductively melted under vacuum and injected in the liquid state into a mold where they solidify amorphously. The finished components are thus produced within 3-4 minutes.

Ideally suited for:

  • High quantities
  • Manufacturing within tight tolerances

Advantages:

  • Automated production process (24/7 possible)
  • Very good surface quality
  • Alternative to machining or MIM (Metal Injection Molding)
