Ceramic Glass for Infrared Windows
Ceramic IR is the perfect material for infrared applications where a through window is required for infrared transmission. Ceramic IR is highly permeable to thermal radiation, especially through the shortwave and mediumwave range. Typical applications include process protection, preventing airflow / cooling from heated surface, oven viewing window, UV blocking, and high temperature supporting structures.
The thermal linear expansion is nearly zero so temperature shock from cold / hot /cold is not a problem. Usability is limited only by maximum temperature range.

Despite its superior thermal properties, Ceramic IR window should still be treated with the care given to any glass material. It still can be scratched or broken by mechanical abuse. When cleaning the window, use only non-caustic, non-abrasive cleaners. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN HOT GLASS. Applying cleaner to hot glass may cause burns, emit hot noxious fumes, and the glass is more likely to stain.
Wire Protection Screen for Infrared Windows
Metal mesh is an alternative method for protecting infrared modules. Its primary advantage is mechanical protection of the infrared haters. Wire screen features high open areas for maximum thermal efficiency. Typically it is constructed from welded or woven stainless steel wire with 1.5 - 2.5mm diameter.
Temperature of the wire depends on the infrared energy and airflow, and does not vary significantly among different infrared lamp types. After heat-up, temperature remains fairly stable. Metal mesh is acceptable for many different processes, but the ceramic glass window (see above) is a better solution for processes involving thin films and foils.
